“I am thrilled to announce the full summer Mainstage season at Bay Street,” Artistic Director Scott Schwartz said. “These three works are portraits of America, explorations of our need for social and financial success. They are stories about how love factors into this need, and struggles with it. They are visions of different eras in our country, but all speak to today through the times in which they’re set.”
The season will begin with the world premiere of Alena Smith’s new comedy, “The New Sincerity,” directed by Bob Balaban. The production, which will run from Tuesday, May 26th through Sunday, June 14th, paints a picture of a young journalist, Rose Spencer, who finds herself in a love triangle, forced to consider politics, love and personal success in her every move.
The summer programming will continue with Jerry Sterner’s “Other People’s Money.” Jason Alexander will star in the Lonny Price directed drama, which will run from Tuesday, June 23rd through Sunday, July 26th. Set in the Reagan days of 1987, businessman Lawrence Garfinkle faces conflict in his latest venture as he works against Kate Sullivan, a smart and stunning lawyer.

The season will culminate with “Grey Gardens” by Scott Frankel. Directed by Michael Wilson, the musical will run from Tuesday, August 4th through Sunday, August 30th. Set in East Hampton in 1941 and 1973, the show tells the story of Jaqueline Kennedy’s bizarre aunt and cousin, Big Edie and Little Edie Bouvier Beale, and their tragic journey from wealthy, well-known aristocrats to infamous outsiders.
“We are proud to offer our audience a world premiere as part of the season, continuing our commitment to making Bay Street a center for new works for the theater,” Schwartz said. “And we are delighted to welcome the distinguished and dazzling artists Jason Alexander, Bob Balaban, Lonny Price, Alena Smith, and Michael Wilson to our stage.”
