Strangemen & Co. Theatre Group Takes A Summer Residency In East Hampton

Strangemen & Co., a New York-based theatre company, has taken a residency at Guild Hall in East Hampton this summer. The company looks to, “honor what is truthful-one story at a time.” The group of young actors, led by co-founding members Jason Ralph and James Ortiz, have portrayed the likes of “The Little Mermaid,” “Free Delivery,” “On the Head of a Pin,” and most recently, “The Woodsman.” Their Hamptons residency will culminate with James Thurber’s “The Thirteen Clocks.”

The group recently finished a sold out run of “The Woodsman,” at the 59E59 Theater in New York. The project, which was funded partially by Jim Henson, who created “The Muppets,” received stellar reviews. The New York Times called it, “Marvelous…overflow[ing] with vivid imagery and emotion,” and it was named a Time Out New York Critic’s Pick. The group is excited to be moving out of the City for a brief period of time to work on “The Thirteen Clocks,” and is especially looking forward to working at the John Drew Theater.

Will Gallacher will direct “Thirteen Clocks,” which will feature only six actors. The story follows a group of people who frequent a small-town bar, where they create fictionalized worlds with their imaginations, using the mundane objects around them. Using puppetry, human actors, miming, and singing, the troupe gives an out-of-the-box experience.

“Thirteen Clocks,” presented by Strangemen & Co., will take place on Saturday, May 23rd at 7 p.m. Admission to the performance is free and a reception will follow.

Guild Hall is located at 158 Main Street in East Hampton. For more information, call 631-324-0806 or visit www.guildhall.org.

On Saturday, June 25th the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center held their 14th Annual Get Wild benefit at a beautiful estate property in Southampton Village. The weather was perfect – sunny and warm – and the many guests in attendance enjoyed beverages and passed hors d’oeuvres to a background of classical music played by a string trio. Several of the Rescue Center’s animal ambassadors were also on hand, including hawks, owls and a groundhog. The event honored Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming and Veterinarian Karen Johnson, DVM. An online silent auction raised additional funds. @wildliferescuecenter
