For Our Fabulous Variety Show’s (OFVS) 13th production, the evolving troupe of dedicated thespians will pay homage to the history and art of tap dance.
“This show brings the fabulous dance and music of tap to the East End by showcasing the history of the art form through high energy dances and video clips of the greats,” shared Anita Boyer, who co-founded the group with Kasia Klimiuk. “We will be joined by a Professional Tap Master, Aaron Tolson, who has performed in Riverdance and on Broadway, along with his company “Speaking in Taps” on Friday April 29th at the Southampton College performance!”
OFVS will present TAP: An Evening of Rhythm at Southampton Cultural Center (25 Pond Lane, Southampton) in conjunction with Dance Fusion on Friday, April 22nd at 7 p.m., with performances continuing on Saturday, April 23rd at 7 p.m. The show was created last April as a JDT Lab at Guild Hall by Boyer, who wanted to find a way to introduce the audience to all aspects of tap, from its roots all the way to the dance’s many variations. She hopes after seeing the performance, it will generate a profound appreciation for the intricate artistic dance style.
Boyer choreographed and directed TAP: An Evening of Rhythm, which will bring to the stage dancers from Manhattan to Montauk. Comedic actor Tony D’Alessio will serve as the evening’s host and attendees can expect favorites like Shirley Temple, Bill Bojangles Robinson’s Stair Dance, Broadway showstoppers, jazzy quintets, modern rhythm and classic standards.
On Friday, April 29th, TAP: An Evening of Rhythm can be seen at the Avram Theater at Stony Brook Southampton (239 Montauk Highway, Southampton) at 7 p.m. The performance will feature professional tap dancer, Aaron Tolson and his tap dance company, Speaking in Taps!
