“The Money Shot” Provides A Comical Look At Ascending To Hollywood Stardom

Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center (SCC) is proud to present Neil LaBute’s The Money Shot from Thursday, January 19th through Sunday, February 5th at SCC’s Levitas Center for the Arts. The Money Shot is an “acid-tongued satire” that premiered at the MCC Theater at the Lucille Lortel Theater in New York in 2014.

Karen and Steve are glamorous movie stars that have one thing in common: desperation. Both actors are struggling to find their next critically acclaimed performance, but the latest movie by a hot shot European director could change that. The show is sexy, daring, darkly, and hilarious. The Money Shot is not a show to be missed!

Joan M. Lyons will make her solo directorial debut. “This season Michael Disher and I wrangled for months over the season lineup of productions,” remarked Lyons. “We’ve stepped out of our usual box a bit with The Money Shot as it’s not the typical type of production we’ve been known for in the past.”

They hope the comedy will appeal to SCC regulars, as well as those who might not have attended a SCC production yet. “Starting with the production of Sordid Lives last season, we have started looking for theatrical genres that we hadn’t even considered before,” she explained. “Center Stage is not only trying to reach an ever widening audience with The Money Shot but we are also stretching ourselves as directors and performers to examine this script and these characters and to artistically push ourselves to go places we haven’t gone before with this quick-witted LaBute comedy.”

The Money Shot features Bonnie Grice, Joseph Marshall, Tamara Salkin and Kristin Whiting.

“It’s definitely is a bit naughty but the real beauty and takeaway of this play is the absurdity of the interaction of these characters and the occasional glimpse of a real human underneath,” said Lyons. “After the recent presidential campaign and its cast of sometimes ridiculous characters, we realize that perhaps LaBute isn’t far off the mark – absurd people have no idea that they are absurd.”

Performances will take place on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. General admission is $22 and student (under 21 with ID) tickets are available for $12.
