Center Stage Casting For “Mamma Mia!” Production

Love the music of ABBA and Mamma Mia!, a jukebox musical written by British playwright Catherine Johnson, based on the Swedish pop/dance group’s songs?

Audition to be a part of Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center’s upcoming Mamma Mia! production on Thursday, January 3 and Friday, January 4 at 6 p.m. The two day casting event will encompass both a vocal and dance audition, as well as readings from the script. Sides will be provided.

Mamma Mia! revolves around young Sophie who invites her mother’s three former lovers to her wedding – with the goal of figuring out which of the trio is her father. The musical includes several ABBA hits, including Dancing Queen, Super Trouper, Lay All Your Love on Me, Money, Money, Money and, Mamma Mia, of course.

Michael Disher will direct, with Amanda Jones as musical director. Alyssa Kelly is choreographing the production.

“The plot is simple: the tunes are well-known and plentiful,” Disher noted. “I am hoping to find men and women of all ages who appreciate dance music from the 70s and have the energy to create a feel good dance show.”

“Besides, it’s a great way to exercise in the winter,” Disher added. “My casts always acknowledge the best way to get through a winter in the Hamptons is to do a musical!”

While the roles of Donna (Sophie’s mother) and Sophie have already been cast, Center Stage is looking for its Sam Carmichael (Male 40 to 50, Vocal range top: Ab4/Vocal range bottom: D3) could be Sophie’s father; Bill Austin (Male 40 to 50, Vocal range top: F#4/Vocal range bottom: Bb2) another father candidate; Harry Bright (Male 40 to 50, Vocal range top: F#4/Vocal range bottom: C#3) might be Sophie’s father; Sky (Male 20 to 30, Vocal range top: D5/Vocal range bottom: Eb3) Sophie’s fiancé; Tanya (Female 40 to 50, Vocal range top: E5/Vocal range bottom: E3) former Dynamo bandmate; Rosie (Female 40 to 50, Vocal range top: D5/Vocal range bottom: E3) former Dynamo bandmate; Lisa (Female 20 to 25, Vocal range top: Db5/Vocal range bottom: G3) Sophie’s friend; Ali (20 to 25, Vocal range top: D5/Vocal range bottom: G3) Sophie’s friend; Pepper (Male 20 to 25, Vocal range top: F5/Vocal range bottom: A4) the barman at Taverna; Eddie (Male 20 to 25) assists Sky with water-sports; and a chorus of the Islanders who work at Donna’s and wedding guests – includes both genders.

Mamma Mia! will open on March 8 and run through March 24. The majority of rehearsals will be held Mondays through Fridays in the evening.

For the auditions, thespians should prepare 16-32 measures of a pop/disco/ABBA song, and don attire they will be comfortable dancing in.

“So many fun roles. So many vocals, so many songs,” Disher reflected.
