Hampton Theatre Company Presenting Ken Ludwig’s “Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery”

Hampton Theatre Company’s first play of the 2019-2020 season will be Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. The production will open on Thursday, October 24 at the Quogue Community Hall and run through Sunday, November 10. The play has been described as a “murderously funny adventure” and is sure to entertain.

The play features Holmes and Watson who must sort out a dizzying web of clues, silly accents, disguises, and deceit as three actors in the cast of five impressively portray a whopping forty characters.

From the award winning mastermind of mayhem, Ken Ludwig, comes a fast-paced comedy about everyone’s favorite detective solving his most notorious case,” said Terry Brennan, General Manager of The Hampton Theatre Company. “Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson must crack the mystery of ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ before a family cures dooms its newest heir.”

A reviewer for Broadway World proclaimed that “the joy is not in solving the crime but in the plethora of wildly imaginative characters you meet along the way … a play that is ingeniously funny and will keep you guessing until the curtain call.”

Ludwig is a two-time Olivier Award-winning playwright whose work is performed throughout the world in more than 30 countries and at least 20 languages. He has written 25 plays and musicals with six Broadway productions and seven in London’s West End. His first Broadway play Lend Me a Tenor, won two Tony Awards and was called “one of the classic comedies of the 20th century” by The Washington Post.

Other Ludwig plays include: Crazy For You (five years on Broadway, Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Musical), Moon Over Buffalo (Broadway and West End, starring Carol Burnett), The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Broadway, starring Kristen Bell), Treasure Island (West End), Twentieth Century (Broadway, starring Alec Baldwin), Leading Ladies, The Game’s Afoot, A Fox on the Fairway, The Beaux’ Stratagem, Baskerville, and A Comedy of Tenors.

Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville will feature four Hampton Theatre Company veterans, including Andrew Botsford as Actor Two; Matthew Conlon as Sherlock Holmes; Tina Jones as Actress One; and Ben Schnickel as Actor One. Duncan Hazard, a newcomer to the HTC stage, will take on the role of Dr. Watson.

Hampton Theatre Company Artistic Director Diana Marbury directs, while Sean Marbury is responsible for the captivating set. Sebastian Paczynski designed the play’s lighting, Seamus Naughton is on sound, and costumes are designed by Teresa Lebrun.

Shows will be on Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. An additional matinee performance will be offered during the final weekend of the production, on Saturday, November 9, prior to the regular 8 p.m. performance that evening. A talkback with the cast will be offered following the Friday, November 1 at 7 p.m.

The Hampton Theatre Company is offering special dinner and theater packages in collaboration with the Westhampton, Southampton, Hampton Bays and Quogue libraries. A special lunch and theater package is also available for the Saturday matinee on November 9, with lunch before the show at the Quogue Club at the Hallock House.

Tickets are $10 for students, $20 for those under 35-years-old, $25 for seniors, and $30 for adults.
