Brooke Shields To Discuss “There Was A Little Girl” At Hamptons Book Signing

On Friday, July 31st from 6 to 8 p.m., actress, model, and The New York Times best-selling author Brooke Shields is holding a book signing at Urban Zen in Sag Harbor.

“There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me,” Shields’ 2014 memoir, takes a poignant, heartwarming and brutally honest look at her relationship with her mother. In the book, the actress also reflects on how their complicated but caring relationship effected the way she approaches motherhood herself.

Brooke’s mother and former manager, Teri, died in 2012. The actress wrote the memoir, in part, so that people would see a different, less harsh side of Teri. One of the moments that really hit a nerve for Brooke was an obituary published by The New York Times, shortly after her mother’s death. “The obituary’s author highlighted—completely out of context—the most salacious facts and quotes,” Shields said in the memoir.

Brooke rose to fame at the young age of 11 months and never left. This was largely due to her momager, who became infamous in the media. Teri was criticized often throughout Brooke’s career, for her decisions in regards to the risky roles she allowed her young daughter to take, especially so when she allowed a then 12-year-old Brooke to take on the role of a child prostitute in Louis Malle’s “Pretty Baby.” While the mother, daughter relationship was often surrounded by controversy, with “There Was a Little Girl: The Real Story of My Mother and Me,” Brooke wanted to the record straight, in her own words.

The no-holds-barred memoir also covers Brooke’s romantic relationships with fellow celebrities, including her first love, Dean Cain, and the dissolution of her marriage with tennis superstar Andre Agassi.

The book signing is free and open to the public.
