It is always a sad realization when local businesses that we have come to know, love and rely on are sometimes forced to close and/or relocate due to the high cost of rental property in the Hamptons. Such was the unfortunate fate recently experienced by Harbor Books, which is owned by Taylor Rose Berry.
Having enjoyed a successful commitment to her community since opening Harbor Books in 2014 at 20 Main Street in Sag Harbor, the ever-changing regional economy unfortunately made the rented space simply too cost prohibitive to sustain, thus forcing Berry to seek space elsewhere. Yet another well-known Hamptons business, White’s Pharmacy, will now occupy the vacated 20 Main Street space.
Berry worked tirelessly and diligently to stay in this community that she is personally committed to and she is proud to announce both a new name and a new location for the well-known bookstore. Berry & Co. will now be located on the second floor at 51 Division Street, in the space formerly occupied by Windswept Salon. Berry revealed, “The plan is to open before Memorial Day, and I have reached an agreement with my wonderful new landlord as brokered by my wonderful real estate agent which I am very happy with. I did not consider other areas, as I have always wanted the brick and mortar location to stay in Sag Harbor.”
While other businesses located in the same building include the Sag Harbor Baking Company, UPS and Jack’s Coffee, Berry assures that both new and returning visitors and clients will continue to enjoy the botanicals, books and, of course, the always soothing Dobra Teas and Tisanes. Additional amenities such as outdoor deck space, water views and new Herbal blends and potions effortlessly guarantee a comfortable and stress free experience. “There are cathedral ceilings and skylights providing great natural light for reading,” an enthusiast Berry advised.
Along with her continued commitment to operate her well-known pop-ups in Sag Harbor, including The American Hotel, Black Swan Antiques, and other local businesses, as well as East Hampton (The Spur) and Southampton, Berry revealed, “We have always been very proud of our curated reading selections, and clients can always order online as we include delivery service.”
Berry has launched a Kickstarter campaign with incentives based on the donation amount, such as two books and a “beautiful” bookmark for a $50 donation. Continuing, she explained, “There are six levels and to acknowledge various donated amounts, the incentives can range from a private book party to the installation of a library.”
Concluding, Berry confirmed, “I am absolutely thrilled that Berry & Co. has found a home in Sag Harbor, and I am really looking forward to our opening in the new space in a community I consider home.”
So stop in at the new location of the newly named Berry & Co. to relax, read and enjoy.
