That Motown Band will be performing at the Bay Street Theater, Sunday, February 8, at 4pm for “The Butterfly Effect Project’s Motown benefit,” billed as a living celebration of the iconic sound that shaped a generation. Founder and Executive of the Butterfly Effect Project, Tijuana Fulford, said in an exclusive with Hamptons.com, “That Motown Band brings their philosophy of joyful storytelling through timeless music, rooted in the spirit of connection, energy, and authenticity that defined the original Motown movement. They don’t just play hits like “Heat Wave,” ‘Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” Baby Love,’ ‘My Girl,’ and ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ — they channel the feeling and heartbeat behind those songs, inviting every listener into a shared experience of rhythm, soul, and pure musical joy.”
She went on to say that, “At the heart of the performance is the belief that great music draws people together. This band approaches the stage not just as entertainers but as sonic storytellers, blending polished musicianship with a genuine love for the classics.”
Ms. Fulford also said joining That Motown Band, on the Bay Street stage will be legendary soul vocalist Garfield Fleming, whose rich history — including 25 years with The Delfonics — brings “veteran presence and emotional depth to the performance. His voice echoes the legends, carrying the soul and nuance that make this music unforgettable.”
This show is designed as a celebration of culture and community, honoring the legacy of Motown while supporting BEP’s mission to empower young people through creativity, confidence, and opportunity. Fulford made clear, “That Motown Band philosophy is to give you that Motown feeling. She explained they are,”… more than just a Motown band that sings songs.” She said, “(This band) allows you to not only hear the music, but to feel, relive, and see it.” She added they are able to do that, especially because of acts such as Garfield Fleming, who she said, “… is a soul singing vocalist of legendary status. He was a member of the Delfonics for 25 years along with William Hart.” Ms. Tijuana Fulford said, “Garfield’s obvious resemblance to David Ruffin (Temptations) makes people look twice. But when he sings, fans lose their minds, time, and time again.”
She is excited about this special benefit at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor because it will bring the show to the heart of the Hamptons. She said this allows us to have an opportunity to be in a place where “Those attending the benefit listening to That Motown Band, will both enjoy the music and have a way to give back.”
