Unscripted: The Next Chapter of Jill & Ally

Jill Zarin and Ally Shapiro I Photography By Andrew Werner

For Jill Zarin and Ally Shapiro, life in the spotlight has never been just about flashing cameras or headline buzz—it’s been about building something that lasts. From Jill’s unforgettable rise on The Real Housewives of New York City to Ally’s compelling evolution from reality TV teen to thoughtful entrepreneur, this mother-daughter duo has turned fame into foundation. Now, with new business ventures, personal reinventions, and a fresh perspective on what being “seen” really means, they’re rewriting the rules of legacy—not as reality stars, but as women in charge of their own narrative.

Ladies, what does being in the spotlight mean to each of you right now?

Jill Zarin: At this point in my life, the spotlight means having a platform I can actually do something meaningful with. When I was younger, it was more about the glam—going to every event, saying yes to everything, networking nonstop. Now, it’s about impact. Whether it’s growing Jill Zarin Home, supporting causes I care deeply about, or mentoring women in business, I see it as a responsibility, not just a perk.

Ally Shapiro: For me, it’s about using this platform and showing up as my authentic self—even when things aren’t perfect. I’ve realized that people relate more when you’re honest. The spotlight doesn’t have to mean pressure—it can also mean presence. I’m more focused on sharing things that are happening in my life so I don’t feel as lonely, and hoping others will be able to connect as well.

What’s the biggest difference between public vs. private Jill & Ally?

Zarin: In public, we definitely turn it on more—lashes, glam squads, gowns, you name it. But privately, we’re much more relaxed. Our happy place is honestly just being in bed, in pajamas, watching TV with [boyfriend] Gary [Brody], [Pomeranian] Bossi, and Ally when she visits.

What’s something people get wrong about the Zarins?

Zarin: People think we’re more calculated than we are, but the truth is, what you see is what you get. We’re brutally honest—sometimes to a fault! But we lead with love, and we laugh a lot. We’re not perfect, but we’re real. My tag line “I know who I am and I own it” still rings true today.

Shapiro: I think people sometimes mistake my introverted nature for being cold or unapproachable. But I have a lot of social anxiety; I overthink everything.

Ally, what’s the best piece of advice Jill’s given you about dealing with the media?

Shapiro: My mom always told me, “Control the narrative.” That’s something I’ve carried with me—especially now that social media gives us that power. If you don’t define your story, someone else will.

How did being on Bravo change life for you both?

Zarin: It completely transformed my life. It opened doors I never imagined—from launching businesses to meeting incredible people to building a brand I’m so proud of. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I don’t take it for granted.

Shapiro: It shaped me during such formative years. Growing up on camera made me self-aware, sometimes painfully so. But it also taught me resilience and helped me develop a thick skin. I wouldn’t be who I am today without it.

Ally Shapiro, Jill Zarin I Photography By Andrew Werner
Jill, if Bravo called tomorrow and said, “We want you back full-time,” what’s your answer? And Ally, would you join her?

Zarin: They actually did call! I filmed Ultimate Girls Trip a few years ago, and it was such a blast reconnecting with Housewives from all over. Then they approached me again for a Legacy show, but the timing didn’t feel right. That said—never say never. I just wrapped producing a new reality show for another network, and that was a whole new challenge.

Shapiro: I’d never say never either. But I’d want it to reflect who we are today, not just who we were in 2008. I like being “Bravo-adjacent.” I’d support her 100 percent, but I also like being behind the scenes.

Was there ever a moment when the cameras caught something too real that you wished it hadn’t aired?

Zarin: Definitely. The grieving moments—losing friendships, losing [late husband] Bobby—those were raw. Watching it back was like reliving the pain.

Shapiro: I’ll always cringe at “fat camp,” but honestly, I’ve heard from so many people who said they felt seen because of it. It’s wild what people remember, but I’ve made peace with it.

Who’s more likely to start drama at a dinner party—and who smooths it over?

Zarin: I’ll admit it—I love a little gossip. But it’s always in good fun!
Shapiro: We both love the drama, but we also both hate conflict. I like to say we can dish it but we can’t take it.

You’re in the Hamptons. It’s Friday night. What’s the ultimate Zarin-approved itinerary?

Shapiro: My go-to now is Montauk. Crow’s Nest for the sunset, MaryLou’s for dinner, and Montauk Project for late-night dancing. Saturday is Surf Lodge, and Sunday we slow it down on Shelter Island.

Zarin: I’m more about charity events, boating, and elegant dinner parties than the club scene. I love being out on the water, then heading to a low-key dinner with good friends.

Ally, you broke off your engagement last summer. How is your dating journey going?

Shapiro:
It’s actually been great! Dating in your thirties is so much more fun. I’ve started going to more Shabbats and events, which has been a lovely, natural way to meet people. I know what I want now and am much more confident in my own skin. I feel open and excited, not pressured.

Ally Shapiro, Jill Zarin I Photography By Andrew Werner
Jill, how have you been there for Ally?

Zarin: I just tried to be a safe space. No judgment, no pressure. I told her it was okay to choose herself. That’s what love looks like—support without conditions.

What’s the wildest DM either of you has ever received—and did you respond?

Zarin: Most of my DMs are sweet, asking for product links or advice. People love to ask how I met Gary or where to find their own “Bobby.”

Shapiro: Lately, people have been DMing me about their relationships, asking if they should call off their wedding! I always say, “I can’t tell you what to do—but if you’re asking a stranger, you probably already know the answer.”

Tell us what’s new at Jill Zarin Home!

Zarin: We’re always evolving. Our signature pet-proof rugs are still bestsellers, but we’ve added a luxe handmade wool collection that’s perfect for any elevated space. Our bedding and pillow lines just expanded after selling out, and our candle line—which includes one called The Hamptons—is custom-scented and poured in gorgeous double-walled glass.

What’s next for you both?

Zarin: Personally, I’m focused on slowing down a bit—spending more time in Boca Raton near my parents, which has been such a gift. Professionally, Jill Zarin Home is expanding, and I’m stepping more into producing. I want to create content that feels good, and do it on my terms.

Shapiro: I’m in a season of reinvention. I’m leaning into my voice, exploring new projects, and building our brands. Never in a million years did I think I would be where I am now, but I’ve never been happier.
