In East Hampton, a designer shop called Balenciaga was robbed by five people who ran into the store and stole $90,000 worth of handbags and then high tailed it in an SUV leading to a high-speed chase. They broke down with a flat tire and were arrested in Manorville.
When I heard about this news, I was completely shocked. I had two immediate thoughts. The first thought was, “man, I really should figure out how to get into the handbag business” and my second thought was, “What in the world were these five people thinking?”
I just don’t get it. Who in this group thought this was a good idea and that they would get away with it? There is literally only one way into the Hamptons and one way out. You can’t rob a place in broad daylight, jump in your car and drive back to the city without being noticed? I can’t go more than a mile while driving in the Hamptons without seeing a police officer enforcing traffic laws (I’m glad they do).
Four of the five were arrested. The fifth one is still at large but it is just a matter of time in my opinion before there is a final arrest. The east end has one of the best police forces in the entire country, it’s literally just a matter of time.
It’s amazing what the police do out here. In one year in East Hampton alone, there are 20,000 calls for service, over 1,000 motor vehicle accidents, over 2,000 medical aided cases and they issue over 5,000 traffic citations. The department has 65 sworn officers who make over 700 arrests and handle hundreds of felony investigations. This is in a year!
But they do it, and the police departments on the East End stop guys/girls like this that show up with plans to hurt our community. The local police are here, they are strong and they will keep our stores open and keep our lives out here safe, free and fun like it has always been and like it will always be.
