Choral Society Of The Hamptons’ “‘Tis The Season” Concerts To Feature “Dancing: Variations” World Premiere

The Choral Society of the Hamptons is treating East Enders to two merry seasonal concerts on Sunday, December 8. ‘Tis The Season: Offerings of Celebration and Renewal Old will spread holiday cheer at 3 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. at the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church (2429 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton).

The “potpourri of festive tunes and sweeping melodies” will include the world premiere of Dancing: Variations, a masterpiece from David M. Brandenburg, a local composer and former Choral Society executive director. The exquisite piece, which utilizes horn, piano, and chorus, highlights the enchanting words of Sag Harbor poet Kathryn Levy.

“Kathryn Levy’s beautiful and thoughtful poem evokes so many ideas about art and imagination. I’m honored to have had the opportunity to set it to music for the Choral Society,” Brandenburg noted.

In addition to Dancing: Variations, ‘Tis The Season will encompass captivating classics such as Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine and works by Camille Saint-Saens, Gustav Holst, and Cecilia McDowall. Of course there will be carols that will cause the audience to break into song and join in.

After the evening’s final performance, the Society will host a complimentary post-concert reception and silent auction at The Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Parish Center (2350 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton). The joyous soiree will feature more carol sing-alongs, tasty bites, and wine from Channing Daughters Winery.

General admission concert tickets are $30 in advance ($35 at the door), youth tickets are $10 in advance ($15 at the door), and preferred-seating is $75. Tickets are available for purchase at the Romany Kramoris Gallery (41 Main Street, Sag Harbor).

The Choral Society of the Hamptons, an auditioned chorus led by music director, Mark Mangini that features a professional music director, soloists, an orchestra, and accompanists, was founded in 1946 by Charlotte Rogers Smith, a local church choir director.
