You may have noticed a new frozen yogurt shop opened on Main Street in Bridgehampton. At first glance, you think surely it must be an NYC business making a run for Hamptons customers. How wrong you would be—”Sundaes on Main” is as local as it gets.
Everything about this shop is authentic, adorable, local, and smart. It is just a perfect example of how to run a small business in The Hamptons.
Founders Tom and Jeanie Strong, East Hampton fixtures, grew up in the area together. The couple met in high school, married, and are raising their family in East Hampton. True entrepreneurs, Tom and Jeanie have started businesses in the Hamptons including a landscaping business and a field business.
Their new frozen adventure is as adorable as it is successful in the Bridgehampton community.
Jeanie is in the store 7 days a week with the help of her children and local hires to keep it running. “We always wanted to do this and it just worked out perfectly thanks to Romaine Gordon of Saunders and Associates who found the space for us. Our landlord is wonderful and is also local,” Jeanie tells me with a bright smile.
The commercial property was exclusively represented by Lee Minetree of Saunders & Associates.
Like any true family business, there is a sensational variety of flavors and personalities. The shop is self-serve, and you are charged by weight. Flavors include Bridgehampton Batter, Tuckahoe Tart, Cake a la Mode, and Plain Ol’ Vanilla. The parlor is bright and cheery, and instantly puts you in a good mood when you walk in. There are also little stools by the window where you can sit and enjoy your frozen treat while people-watching.
Not just an American success story of local entrepreneurs who take the risk to open a small shop, the frozen yogurt is absolutely delicious and will have you coming back for more. “The feedback has been really positive so far, it is really nice to see people respond,“ Jeanie tells me, “We are just so thankful for Romaine for finding us this spot. She sold our first house, and she rents out our house for us every year. She’s our go-to.”
Be sure to visit Sundaes on Main this summer, open 7 days a week from 12:00pm–10:00pm
