This Friday night, Newtown Lane in East Hampton Village will be transformed into the ultimate Hamptons sports bar for Game 2 of the NBA Finals, as the New York Knicks seek to take a 2-0 series lead against the San Antonio Spurs.
Move over, Artists & Writers Softball Game — the biggest sports event of the Hamptons year is coming to Newtown Lane on Friday. East Hampton Village, usually elegant and earth-toned, will be dressed head to toe in blue and orange.
Beginning at 5:00 PM, the Village will close Newtown Lane and turn one of East Hampton’s busiest streets into a game-night gathering, complete with a giant screen, food and drinks, local businesses, and hundreds of fans coming together to root for New York.
“Tomorrow night, Newtown Lane and our downtown become Knicks Town,” said Village Administrator Marcos Baladrón. “We’re excited to bring neighbors, families, and fans together to cheer on the Knicks in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Last night’s game was a great start, and events like this are what make East Hampton special — bringing our community together to celebrate, support the home team, and create memories with neighbors. Let’s fill Newtown Lane and cheer the Knicks to another win.”
The Village knows how to stage a sports takeover. The last time East Hampton went this big for a game was during the Yankees’ 2024 World Series run. While the outcome on the court should be better this time around, the production is unlikely to disappoint.
And if Game 2 is anything like Game 1 (minus the 14-point second-half deficit), expect plenty of GO-New-York-GO-New-York-Go!” echoing down Newtown Lane.
All Knicks Fans Welcome!
When it comes to sports in the Hamptons, Gubbins has been part of the conversation for as long as anyone can remember. Gary Gubbins, a lifelong Knicks fan, will be on site with hats, Knicks gear, and local sweatshirts, so fans are encouraged to bring their vintage Knicks gear, pull up to Gary’s table, trade a few Knicks stories, and pick up a new officially licensed New York Knicks ’47 Brand hat.
“This is great for the Village,” Gubbins said. “The Hamptons is New York all the way, the summer is getting started, and nothing would be sweeter than seeing a Knicks banner go up in Madison Square Garden. As a thank-you to the locals, we’re also discounting our Bonac-themed sweatshirts. Knicks in six!”
The local business community is in full Knicks mode, with Smokin’ Wolf, Cittanuova, Sam’s, Blue Parrot, and others open and joining the celebration.
