Hoops 4 Hope (H4H), a program that serves over 10,000 kids and communities in Zimbabwe and Cape Town, South Africa, is hosting a Hamptons Summer Benefit 2018 with The Feedfeed on Sunday, August 5. The organization was founded by Amagansett resident Mark Crandall.
“We are very excited for this weekend’s event at a beautiful new home in Sagaponack that will bring together the best local food and chefs curated by The Feedfeed for an unforgettable African food experience and live music,” shared Mark Crandall, H4H Founder & Executive Director. “Our annual Summer Benefit directly supports our not-for-profit that provides after-school programs free of charge in over 60 schools throughout the entire year that are run by our locally trained mentor coaches who help African girls and boys.”
Taking place at a private estate in Sagaponack from 6 to 9 p.m., the evening will feature Sundowner cocktails and an African braai (bbq) cooked in an outdoor wood burning oven. The meal will also encompass summer produce grown right in Amagansett, as well as local seafood and local grass-fed beef from the North Fork. Featured purveyors include Amber Waves Farm, Haskell’s Seafood, Acabonac Farms, Balsam Farms, West Robins Oysters, Wolffer Estate Vineyard, Montauk Brewing Company, and Hal’s Seltzer.

Hoops 4 Hope’s mission is to provide “children and young adults the tools needed to face the many challenges of growing up in disadvantaged communities using sport as a platform.” The organization teams up with schools and community organizations to offer after-school and holiday programs for children aged 6 to 16. H4H also gets the community involved by providing basketball and Skills 4 Life training to teachers and staff. Many former H4H participants stay involved through the volunteer Community Coach (MVPs) program. The MVPs, who range in age from 16 to 25-years-old, receive tutoring, mentorship, and employability training. They are also given opportunities to pursue their passion for the game through exposure to University and National Teams. H4H assembles the teams, tournaments, and community events, constructs and preserve courts, and donates athletic equipment that was collect from across Canada and the United States. Hoops 4 Hope also joins forces with NBA Africa to aid in Basketball without Borders each year.
“Thank you for being part of our special family helping so many deserving kids and communities in Zimbabwe and South Africa,” Crandall added.
