Parrish Art Museum to Present the 2023 Student Exhibition

It’s almost time for the Parrish Art Museum’s annual Student Exhibition, an almost 70-year-old tradition. The 2023 Student Exhibition, on view from March 12 to April 16, features the work of over 1,000 artists from schools on eastern Long Island. Participating students work with their school art teachers and art clubs to create paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs. This year’s exhibition also features artworks by students who worked in collaboration with this year’s visiting artist, Darlene Charneco.

Martha Stotzky, Deputy Director of Arts Education for the Parrish, invites everyone in the local community to see the student art show.  “The annual Student Exhibition is such a wonderful celebration of the students and art teachers on Eastern Long Island. I encourage everyone to come be inspired by the innate creativity that exists in all of us!”  

About the visiting artist: Darlene Charneco is a NYC born contemporary LatinX artist whose tactile mixed-media artworks explore people, networks, homes, and communities as part of a larger organism’s growth stage. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States at venues including the Katonah Museum, the Hunterdon Museum, the Islip Art Museum and the Parrish Art Museum, and is featured in a recent book The Map as Art: Contemporary Artists Explore Cartography by Katherine Harmon.

Saturday, March 11 is Exhibition Preview Day, when admission will be free.

   11am to 12pm: Gallery preview

   12 to 2 pm: Reception for Young Artists (Pre-K through grade 8) 2 to 4 pm: reception for High School Artists

Guests will enjoy refreshments including cookies from the Museum Cafe by Elegant Affairs, plus live performances by musician/storyteller/naturalist Johnny Cuomo.
