In April, real estate agents were treated to a special open house led by the renowned design team responsible for 67 Hither Lane in East Hampton Village. The event was a fascinating guided tour through the inspiration and creation of the estate’s exacting vision of luxury design and function.

As a writer for Hamptons.com, I often find myself visiting homes that command attention because of their quality. By default, the standard in the Hamptons is high; but there is a stratum beyond. The Estate at 67 Hither Lane shares rarified air born from a visionary commitment to concept to match their budget.

Real estate writing in the Hamptons lends itself to using hyperbole or at least adjective-laden descriptions considering the high standard set by homes outfitted with sweeping arrays of amenities and features like location, appliances, location, views, and permits.

For this article, in an effort to focus more on the design than the value per se, please know that every single interior and exterior detail at 67 Hither Lane delivers an uncompromising luxury experience.

The Estate brings new meaning to the word custom. While the designers could have talked for hours just about the bespoke details that set this property apart—designer light fixtures, cutting-edge technology, premium building materials—describing the home’s “specifications” is an unsatisfying and incomplete description. This East Hampton Estate is a master class in design.

Out-of-the-box words—luxury, premium, designer—cannot completely describe 67 Hither Lane. While they are true, they are entirely incomplete in illustrating the inspiration and execution of this completely custom home.

More precisely, are exacting, resonant, pedigree, venerated.

“The quality and impeccable taste are easy for anyone to see, but it’s so special to have an opportunity to understand the inspiration that drives this one-of-a-kind property. We are certainly accustomed to amenities in the Hamptons, but this is next-level luxury. More than that, living here would be like having an art gallerist curate your own home!” said Laura White of Saunders & Associates, who shares the co-exclusive listing with Susan Breitenbach of Corcoran.

Where some homes are generally outfitted in neutral tones and with minimal art so as not to offend anyone, 67 Hither Lane’s aesthetic perspective is elevated by what the designer terms a “universal point of view.” That is to say, the design speaks for itself, an identity announced in an underlying pallet iterated in every room—thoughtful and consistent materials, and masterful millwork, all embedded with designer details.

Proud of their vision and the work they have put into this home, the designers are certainly not shy in sharing their “aversion to spec houses, where margins dictate quality. We are extremely passionate—unrelenting—in pursuing a cohesive vision, only buying pieces we love. Like all of our homes, this project was a labor of love.”

The designer’s tireless efforts have resulted in an easily understood and felt harmony throughout every space, extolling the home’s aesthetic character—not the designers.

The home’s center of gravity—from which everything orbits—is a custom-designed Alexander McQueen rug in the living room. From this point, the home’s visual vernacular is established in elegant earth tones with powerful pops of warm accent colors, a subtle motif that echoed in the home’s furnishing and decor.

Custom graphite windows are at the core of the home’s DNA, informing many of the neutral-hued slate, grey, and light-blue accents. Large windows frame lush landscaping and evergreens for year-round greens that expand the interior sightlines. This use of green as an accent is iterated throughout the home, most evidently in the living room’s gorgeous custom couch, a shimmering emerald color with delicate dots of white. Complimenting colors connect the home subtly with a calming, whispered refrain, an internal reference anchoring the home.

Working directly with Italian and London-based designers, the home is carefully curated with complementary furnishings and custom-built decor for the project. “Our working relationship with the designers and builders is critical to realizing our vision. Even though Covid-delays and an expanded lead time, we never wavered or compromised,” noted one of the designers.
