June Hamptons PechaKucha To Feature Reiki Master, Artists, And More

The twenty fourth volume of PechaKucha Night Hamptons is returning to the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill this June.

This year’s presenters at the popular international series include a Reiki master, a doll house maker, a photographer and many other artists. The roster includes artist/registered nurse Valley Bak, artist Jackie Black, furniture and miniature maker Jeremy Brandrick, painter Rainer Gross, artist Dinah Maxwell Smith, graphic designer/ Reiki master Joan Ranieri-Certain, fine art photographer Russell Munson, and branding/advertising exec Lew Sherwood.

PechaKucha is a style of presentation where artists show 20 slides for 20 seconds each, creating a six minute and 20 second long presentation.

“We’re thrilled to present another exciting group of creatives at PechaKucha, the East End’s prime talent show,” said Corinne Erni, Senior Curator of ArtsReach and Special Projects.

Valley Bak is both an artist and a registered nurse whose work focuses on the relationship between mediation, the creative process and medicine. By working with patients on the threshold of life and death, as well as her own confrontation with morality as a cancer survivor, she brings a unique perspective to her work.

Jackie Black, a photographer, artist, and activist from Shelter Island, is a participant in the Museum’s Artists Choose Artists exhibition and will present her work On Photography: Sontag, Konmari, and Me.

Jeremy Brandrick is a 1/12th scale miniaturist, producing handcrafted doll houses and mixing his love for architecture and interiors with his obsession for labor intensive, tricky work. His work can be seen in his studios in Springs and Manhattan.

Painter Rainer Gross, originally from Cologne, Germany, has lived in the East Village for over 40 years and has recently moved his studio to Cutchogue on the North Fork. He now resides in Greenport.

Dinah Maxwell Smith studied painting at the Academie Julian in Paris and has since been widely exhibited around New York City and the Hamptons, including the Parrish Art Museum, as well as at the Slater Art Museum in Norwich, Connecticut.

Russell Munson flies his own plane out of East Hampton airport for his work as a fine art aerial photographer. His photographs are shown in private, corporate, and museum collections including the Parrish Art Museum.

Joan Ranieri- Certain is a graphic designer who became a Usui Reiki Master Teacher. By combing her creative and visual art and the art of energy, she created Certain Reiki, a way to rest, recover, and reconnect.

Lew Sherwood is President/Chief Branding Officer of Strategic Thunder Advertising + Branding. He developed successful programs for companies including Bulova, Buitoni, Bristol-Myers, Grand Hyatt, Pierre Cardin, Heinz, Psychology Today, and Walt Disney Pictures. His presentation addresses: “Exactly what is a brand?”

PechaKucha Night Hamptons will take place on Friday, June 15 at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $12 to the public and free for members, children and students. Advance reservations are required.
