In anticipation of the 2018 US Open Golf Tournament at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, we caught up with pro golfer Trey Mullinax who is a member of the vineyard vines Golf Team along with PGA Golfers and rising stars Tom Lovelady, Russell Knox, and Ben Martin. During the US Open, Mullinax will be donning a special limited-edition vineyard vines New York City Skyline Polo in red, white and blue that pays tribute to the Tournament’s location and vineyard vines’ east coast roots.
What initially sparked your interest in golf?
TM: Hanging out with my dad and being able to spend time with him pretty much every day is what made me love the game.
How long have you been playing?
TM: Competitively since age 14.

What would you say your best skills on the golf course are – using your irons, chipping and putting around the green?
TM: I would say my driving is my strength.
Have you ever scored a hole in one?
TM: No, and I’m still upset about it.
What’s your favorite course on the Pro Tour?
TM: My favorite course so far is The Memorial Tournament. The course is amazing.
Have you ever played at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club before?
TM: I haven’t played Shinnecock Hills Golf Club yet, I’m excited to see it.
What are you most looking forward to about playing there/being in the Hamptons?
TM: Just seeing what everyone loves about the Hamptons. Everyone says it’s an amazing place and I’m excited to see what it’s all about.
As a member of the vineyard vines golf team, what are some of your go-tos from the brand when on the golf course?
TM: Man, on and off the course vineyard vines has everything my wife and I need for our whole lifestyle. We hang out in their T shirts, swim in their bathing suits, dress up in something nice for date night… But on the course, they make some great polos, the performance material is perfect for hot days and their Edgartown Polo is something I wear practicing at my home course. Also, when I’m out on tour I have fun with their belts, they have fun designs and I can show off a little of my personality with what ones I wear.
Could you please tell us a bit about the special gear you’ll be wearing during the US Open?
TM: It’s an honor to be able to play in the U.S. Open and vineyard vines, being an American owned and operated company, knows how important red white and blue are. I will be wearing those colors all week long. vineyard vines also made a limited-edition polo celebrating the fact the tournament is in New York and the Hamptons – it has the NYC skyline across the chest.
