Something new and exciting is coming to Southampton this summer. Abbey Russell’s Sticks and Stones Comedy Club, on 25 Pond Lane in Southampton, will be bringing top level comedy to the Hamptons. Carmen Lynch’s mini bio is very impressive. She is an NYC based stand-up comedian. Her credits include a string of late-night TV shows including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan, and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Carmen Lynch has also made appearances on Life & Beth, Inside Amy Schumer, That Damn Michael Che, and the documentary Hysterical.
In an interview with hamptons.com, Carmen Lynch said she believes live comedy is important, because “You get to see the performer in 3 dimensions. Comedy is a conversation with the audience. The performer and the audience get the complete effect–context, body language, your surroundings–you can’t get that from a screen. It also gets you out of your house.” Getting laughs is tough work. A professional comic must stand alone in front of a crowd and deliver funny material.
When asked when she realized that she had the ability to be successful at doing this tough job Carmen Lynch gave an interesting answer. She said, “Not so much that I had the ability but that I enjoyed nothing else as much as going on stage and coming up with new jokes. Eventually the opportunities came and I stuck with it. But there’s a lot more to it than getting laughs: traveling, self-discipline and constantly promoting oneself.”
Comedy is complex. The seeds of being a comic/comedian has to come from somewhere. When Ms. Lynch was asked who was or who is most influential to her career and why her answer revealed a lot about her. Lynch answered, “Since I was a kid, before I even thought about standup, I loved watching reruns of I Love Lucy and The Carol Burnett Show. I have too many to mention but some of my local favorites are Jessica Kirson and Yamaneika Saunders. They exceptional and fearless.”
Since she has never been to the “Sticks and Stones Comedy Club there is an anticipation and excitement to starting something new both in comedy and on the east end. About this she said, “I can’t wait to see the club and perform there! I’m excited to be the very first headliner working there. I’m bringing my friend Andy Pitz to host and my boyfriend John Reynolds will be one of the openers.
Every performer has a favorite type of audience. The mood, atmosphere, energy all contribute to the final product on stage whether it be a concert, a play or a comedy performance. When asked what or who do you personally consider to be your or a perfect audience? Carmen Lynch said, “I appreciate audiences who will go where I take them, whether the joke is weird, dark or inappropriate, they know it’s just comedy and they don’t get offended or sensitive. They’re only there to have a good time and don’t make the joke about themselves.”
She also mentioned, “ I don’t know when this is coming out but if it’s before June 26, I am also recording my special at the Comedy Cellar MONDAY JUNE 26.”
Besides touring in English, Carmen also tells jokes in Spanish. She has two podcasts: one in English with boyfriend (screenwriter) John T. Reynolds titled “The Human CentiPOD” which also streams on SiriusXM, and one in Spanish with Venezuelan radio star Luis Chataing titled “Podria Ser Peor.”
Carmen has two comedy albums and a plethora of viral social media videos on TikTok @carmencomedian.
