The 25th Annual Rell Sunn Surf Contest & Benefit will be held on Saturday, July 15 in Montauk at Ditch Plains Beach. This all-day event combines a fundraising initiative to benefit the East End Foundation (EEF) Montauk with an exciting surf competition.
The events’ namesake, Rell Sunn, pays homage to the extraordinary legacy of the Hawaiian-born world champion and trailblazer in the sport of women’s surfing. Sunn’s passion for the sport led her to spearhead the formation of the Women’s Professional Surfing Association and women’s pro surfing tour. From the mid-1960s to the early 80s, Sunn not only dominated the surfing scene as one of top competitors but also became a beacon of herself empowerment for women worldwide, both in and out of the water.
The EEF has been led by founder Roger Feit, and Co-Director Alice Houseknect for the last two decades. They have dedicated much of their time to advancing the philanthropic causes of the EEF, working towards the betterment of the community.
The Rell Sunn Surf Contest & Benefit will begin with a memorial paddle-out to honor fellow surfers who are no longer with us at 8:00 AM on July 15. The event will feature an art auction, raffle prizes, and collectible Rell Sunn 25th anniversary merchandise and more.
