Founded in 2011 by Lesley Brog, Wags and Walks, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping shelter dogs find their fur-ever home, sprouted from Brog’s devastation at the euthanasia of innocent dogs across LA’s overcrowded and underfunded shelters. Wags and Walks attempts to rescue as many dogs as they can based on a few simple priorities: breaking the stigma surrounding “bully” breeds, and the knowledge that all dogs, regardless of size or temperament, deserve a chance at a beautiful life. Bully breeds refers to all Terrier-breed dogs including, but not limited to, American Pit Bulls, Bull dogs, Mastiffs, Boxers and many more.
In an interview with Chloe Esperiquette, the organization’s Brand and Communications Specialist, Esperiquette said Wags and Walks, “originally started as a Pitbull rescue, but quickly realized the need to help other breeds.” In 2019 the organization branched out to Nashville, Tennessee officially opening an Adoption Center there in the spring of 2023. Luckily for us, Wags and Walks is coming to the Hamptons in July and August. When asked, “why the Hamptons?”, Esperiquette added that Brog, “is originally a New Yorker” and has always wanted to bring her work back to the East Coast.
Wags and Walks has crammed in twelve “pup-up” events on the east end of Long Island between July 14th and August 14th and plans to transport 20-60 dogs per week t0 these adoption events. Like most, Esperiquette’s greatest hope for these “pup-ups” is to get as many dogs introduced to their fur-ever homes as possible. If you’re unable to adopt at this time, you are still able to help out in a number of ways. Esperiquette puts it plainly, the organization’s “biggest need is foster families.” If you do attend one of Wags and Walks adoption events here in the Hamptons, they encourage you to post photos to social media, spread the word, and volunteer whenever possible!
