Heather McDonald, the #1 female comedy podcaster with her show Juicy Scoop, will be performing at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Friday, August 18th at 8:00 p.m. This live experience will be a night of hilarious fun where Heather delves into all the juiciest topics from the real housewives to pop culture to her personal life, and beyond.
Heather spoke about her comedic path, what it’s been like finding success in the industry, and what can be expected from her upcoming show in Westhampton.
She got her start in comedy right after college when she took a class on how to be a stand-up comedian. From there, she joined The Groundlings Theatre company and reached a level where she performed every Sunday, landing her agent soon after. She has been writing and performing ever since and mentioned that being able to express herself through comedy is something she always imagined she could do.
Some of her projects over the years have included her work writing, producing, and appearing on Chelsea Lately, along with its spinoff After Lately. She was a contributing writer for the Wayans’ Brothers films White Chicks and Dance Flick. She has published two New York Times bestselling memoirs, she has appeared on multiple reality TV shows, and her comedy specials have premiered on Netflix, Prime, and Showtime.
Now, with over 600 episodes and 100+ million downloads, Heather’s popular podcast Juicy Scoop has been running for eight years. And she has found success as a headlining comedian in her regularly sold-out shows across the country. “It’s been the best,” Heather says, “It’s completely self-produced and on my own terms. I’ve been one hundred percent able to express everything I’m feeling or what I want to say without someone telling me I can’t, or risking being fired or canceled. I feel like the future is bright in that I’ve created this ability to have complete creative autonomy.”
Juicy Scoop is a comedy podcast and a very topical show. It’s all about what Heather finds funniest, while also keeping it light because as she says, “It’s about the less important things going on in the world.” She notes how the show can be a great escape, and “just fun.” She features other great comedians and many of their discussions are celebrity-based. She also made sure to note that she is always up to date on all the Real Housewives drama.
Heather describes her style of comedy as “your best friend that’s telling you everything, gossiping, giving you the juicy scoop in the funniest way.” She went on to say that she’s very honest about being a wife and mother. “I don’t sugarcoat it. [My comedy] is kind of edgy but extremely relatable.” Heather also noted that her comedy is not only “female humor”, mentioning that the men in the crowd are often laughing the hardest.
She says those in attendance of the show at WHBPAC can “expect to laugh, of course.” She mentioned that there may be a few surprises, and went on to say, “If you’re not easily offended and can laugh at yourself and the world, you should definitely come.”
Heather is spending the whole week in the Hamptons before performing. She is a West Coast native, so she mentioned how excited she is to experience the East Coast and the Hamptons way of life. “I plan on making lots of observations,” she said. She’s going to share about her week onstage during her performance in Westhampton along with lots of other funny and current happenings in the world. “I’m really looking forward to taking in the week of living the life as a Hamptons bitch,” Heather says.
She discussed how she specifically went shopping for this trip, noting, “I bought lots of creams, and beiges, and hats, and flowy white dresses, and gauzy white tops. I hope I fit in.” She looks forward to visiting Le Bilboquet in Sag Harbor and seeing some of her friends from The Real Housewives of New York City. Heather concluded by saying, “I’m just going to soak in that East Coast privileged lifestyle for the week.”
