“LIVE From SAC” Continues With The Martin Fabricius Group Featuring Steve Swallow

The Jam Session and Southampton Arts Center’s latest collaboration will bring The Martin Fabricius Group featuring Steve Swallow to Live from SAC on Saturday, April 7 at 7 p.m. The evening will feature Martin Fabricius on vibraphone, Brad Shepik on guitar, Steve Swallow on bass, and Claes Brondal on drums.

Fabricius is a Danish vibraphonist and film composer. His music has been described by many as image creating, story telling, beautiful and even healing. The calm melodies and friendly harmonies invites the listener inside the music which at times resembles classical or electronic music. All of this mixed with intriguing rhythms and improvisation makes the end result both calm and energetic, grand and intimate.

Fabricius graduated Suma Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a major in film scoring in 1996. While at Berklee, Martin studied the vibraphone with multi Grammy award winner Gary Burton. His first album as a bandleader and vibraphonist, When Sharks Bite (2008), was hailed by JazzNYT as one of the 10 best Danish albums that year. Since then the trio has performed all over the world attracting a growing audience of listeners both familiar and new to jazz. Today, Fabricius lives in Copenhagen, Denmark where he teaches percussion, composition, and film scoring when he’s not on tour.

“We are very excited to present Martin Fabricius Group with legendary bassist Steve Swallow and guitarist Brad Shepik,” said Brondal, Founder of The Jam Session, who curates the series. “The repertoire will reflect original compositions by Mr. Fabricius and Mr. Swallow. The music is part of the Nordic Sound and inspired by the famous ECM recordings.”

The Jam Session, Inc. is a non-profit organization focused on the art of improvisational Jazz as the primary foundation, with other styles and influences present as well. Inspired by the late-night jam sessions and loft rehearsals in New York City, The Jam Session believes that the evolution and survival of improvisational music takes place in front of a live audience, being inclusive and accessible to all who want to engage. The audience will experience an unusual and wonderful musical soundscape in the European Jazz tradition during the next LIVE from SAC. All concerts are recorded live to be aired at a later date on WPPB, your local NPR Station.
