Love The Island Launching “Artists Erasing Hunger” To Aid In The Fight Against Food Insecurity On Long Island

Love The Island, curated apparel, accessories and gifts for those that adore Long Island, is inviting local artists to join them and help eradicate hunger by participating in “Artists Erasing Hunger.”

Through the campaign artists – of all levels – can submit their “island” design, which must fit in Love The Island’s iconic Love The Island logo, that will be featured on a Love The Island t-shirt. $5 from each shirt will be donated to Hauppauge based Long Island Cares, the first food bank on Long Island, and the artist will earn $5 per shirt.

“The cornerstone of our brand is the creative interpretation of a smiling Long Island,” reflected Jim Rowe, CEO & Chief Brand Officer for Love The Island. “It represents the emotional connection to why we all Love The Island – it makes us SMILE! But when you learn that LI Cares delivers food to over 284,000 food insecure people on Long Island a year – it’s hard to smile. Therefore, we are seeking Long Island artists including students, amateurs, and professionals to create their interpretation using our smiling Love The Island logo to both help us raise funds for Long Island Cares and to showcase their work and earn extra income.”

Artists have up to June 15 to upload their design and t-shirts will be available on Love The Island’s website.

“Love The Island will donate a minimum of $1,000 to Long Island Cares, regardless of the number of shirts sold by 12/31/18,” said Rowe.

Long Island Cares was founded by the late musician and singer / songwriter Harry Chapin. The organization’s mission is to “bring together all available resources for the benefit of the hungry on Long Island, and provide to the best of our ability for the humanitarian needs of our community” and they offer assistance when and where it’s needed. Long Island Cares offers nutritional food and support services to a group of over 580 community-based member agencies, including soup kitchens, food pantries, emergency shelters, disability organizations, child care programs, veterans’ services programs and more.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Love The Island once again, this time on another very creative program that will hopefully generate significant participation from artists across Long Island,” said Robin Amato, Chief Development Officer & Communications Director for LI Cares. “Above our name in the logo are the words ‘Because It Takes More Than Food To Feed The Hungry,’ so in addition to funds we are hoping to interest corporations, adults and in particular the youth to volunteer.”
