This February and March, Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor will welcome The Stowaways who will present An Evening of Improv Comedy. Each show promises to be wholly unique and different, reflecting the inherent nature of improvisational theater. The first show will be on Saturday, February 3 at 8 p.m.
“Our Stowaways performances will be a combination of games like you might have seen at The Second City, Groundlings, or Who’s Line is it Anyway, and improvised long form plays like you might have seen at The Improv Olympic or UCB,” said Rob Reese, leader of Bay Street’s improv troupe.
Reese is an experienced director and playwright with many years of experience working in operas, musicals, and improvisation. He has served as faculty at an improv training center in New York City and taught improv in multiple countries and continents. He and Scott Schwartz, the Artistic Director at Bay Street, developed this programming for the theater.
Reese leads a diverse group comprised of New York actors, musicians, and comedians all united by their appreciation of improv comedy. As a troupe, they work in New York City but are based out of Bay Street Theater. They describe themselves as a group of “hilarious, irreverent goofballs who simply refuse to utilize a script.” Despite the unpredictability of improv performances, the Stowaways promise with certainty an evening of laughter.
“Improv comedy is my favorite way to connect with an audience, as well as my fellow players,” said Reese. “I’ve been directing improv comedy for almost 20 years and this is one of the most talented casts I’ve ever worked with. They’re pure-liquid funny!”
An Evening of Improv Comedy will take place on Saturday, February 3, Saturday, February 17, Saturday, March 3, and Saturday, March 17 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 if purchased in advance, and $35 day of the show. They can be bought at the box office, online, or by calling 631-725-9500.
