Hamptons fall festivities will continue with a Harvest Day Fair at Southamptonfest (previously known as Southampton SeptemberFest) on Saturday, October 14, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., at Southampton Historical Museum’s Rogers Mansion. The day is free to everyone and all are welcome. October’s Harvest Day Fair will be a little different this year. In addition to sheep shearing, petting zoo and 19th century crafts we will recreate a Victorian Funeral that actually happened in Southampton during the 1880s. This will be a unique education experience for teenagers and adults to learn very different mourning practices during the Victorian-era.
The Southampton Historical Museum will pay homage to life during the 19th century in Southampton with a variety of activities that reminisce of a simpler, hands-on era when both adults and children pitched in to make income for the family. The Consignment Shop will be open (weather permitting), along with a bake sale.
“October’s Harvest Day Fair will be a little different this year,” noted Tom Edmonds, Executive Director, Southampton Historical Museum.
The day will begin with outdoor activities on the Great Lawn from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Activities include live music, blacksmith, revolutionary war reenactors, tussy mussies, colonial camp kitchen, decoy carver display, wood carving, general store shop keeper educator, quill writing activity, carpenter shop tool demonstration, carpenter shop activity (building small windmills), one room schoolhouse teacher, colonial games for kids, wool spinner, rug hooker, basket weaver and many more.

You can take a break from the outdoor activities and visit the Rogers Mansion for an indoor tour. They will run from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with $4 admission and no charge for children.
Afterwards, return to the Great Lawn for the first ever Harvest Day Fair Victorian Funeral Reenactment. Mourners will gather at 1:30 p.m. and there is no fee to attend. “This will be a unique education experience for teenagers and adults to learn very different mourning practices during the Victorian-era,” Edmonds added. The Victorian Funeral Reenactment continues inside the Rogers Mansion at 2 p.m., with $20 admission.
