Songwriters Share Concert Series Founder To Take The Stage

On Saturday, February 11th, the third annual Songwriters Share Concert Series will return to the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse of the South Fork in Bridgehampton for its third performance of the year, which will feature Songwriters Share founder Nancy Remkus.

“This will be a concert for families and kids,” shared Remkus. “It will be interactive and include singing, dancing, and playing rhythm instruments – lots of fun.”

Remkus, a Sag Harbor native, has entertained crowds locally at Sag Harbor Elementary School and other East End venues for the majority of her career. The self-taught guitarist learned how to play at just 14-years-old. Remkus studied Music Therapy in college and after graduating with her Master’s Degree, she began teaching music in a local Catholic School. Shortly after that, Remkus joined her home district as a full time teacher where she taught for over 30 years. She helped create the Morning Program, an innovative, collaborative music program that starts the school day by gathering students, teachers, staff and parents to share and celebrate life. Remkus led the school in song for over 25 years.

This performance will cover originals as well as some Morning Program favorites. “Many songs will come from my children’s CD, Songs for Growing,” she added.

The Songwriters Share Concert Series benefits seven local charities, with each performer choosing an organization to support. Remkus, who loves spending time outdoors, has decided to donate the proceeds from her concert to Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt (www.longpondgreenbelt.org).

“Many of my songs are about nature and being outdoors,” noted Remkus. “I live near the Long Pond Greenbelt and walk there often.”

Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is “dedicated to the preservation, stewardship, and public appreciation of the unique expanse of coastal plain ponds, freshwater swamps, wetlands, and woodlands in the Town of Southampton known as the Long Pond Greenbelt, which stretches from Ligonee Creek in Sag Harbor to Sagg Pond in Sagaponack.”

“I am so grateful that this beautiful land was preserved for all of us, and all of our wildlife family, to enjoy,” she added. “What a gift!”

Songwriters Share will begin at 1 p.m. Following the performance, attendees are invited to join Remkus for refreshments and a guided hike through the Greenbelt – even if it’s snowy – so don’t forget to bundle up.

Admission is $5 for kids and $10 for adults.

Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse of the South Fork is located at 977 Sag Harbor/Bridgehampton Turnpike in Bridgehampton.
