It’s August in the Hamptons. The weather is perfect, there is still plenty of rosé, and we’ve gotten used to the traffic. Still, a feeling lingers: have I made the most of my Hamptons Summer?
If you’re like me, you are simultaneously overwhelmed and underwhelmed by the “come along with me for a day in the Hamptons” videos flooding social media. But, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to know what’s fun to do in the Hamptons – but, maybe what’s fun for people making videos about how to have fun isn’t necessarily what I would do for fun. I can’t be the only one.
So, rather than trust the travel itinerary of a tourist turned influencer (no shade!), we’re going right to the source – Sarah Minardi. If you don’t know Sarah’s East Hampton credentials, how well do you even know East Hampton? She’s a lifelong local; raises her family here; and she is a real estate agent – so, you know you can trust her suggestions come from experience, not from hype.
Best beach for a day-trip with kids?
Main Beach in East Hampton Village, it’s a classic for a reason! There are lifeguards, food, and bathrooms, plus you can pay to park daily. Even on the weekend, they will allow some non-resident parking. OR – take the Ride Circuit for free from the Village!
Best beach for a relaxing day?
For something quieter, head to Wiborg Beach – if you just want to read and relax. Less parking and not much in the way of facilities – but the crowds are calmer.
What is the one Farmstand you cannot miss before summer closes?
Lisa & Bill’s in Wainscott, owned and operated by the Babinski Family. Iconic Hamptons farmstead. Phenomenal tomatoes, watermelons, great peaches, produce, of course, flowers, they have it all. It’s inviting and manageable. And a heads up, it’s cash only. Also, in August, you cannot miss the corn at Balsam Farms in Amagansett. I grew up with Alex Balsam and can tell you that he always wanted to be a farmer – they are busy for a reason!
What restaurants are you loving this year?
I’m giving you a few. Kumiso in EH Village is unreal. Ramen, sushi, and you will love the Samurai’s Edge Margarita. You can always get a seat. I love it. If you’ve never been to Moby’s for dinner, the food and outdoor seating is great! I had dinner with nine other girlfriends, and the pizza was excellent. They’ve got cool collaborations with other chefs to keep things fresh. My husband and I loved the new Lucky’s Tavern, where Cafe Max used to be. It was great and we will definitely be back. Get over there if you haven’t been!
What’s the new Rosé you’re loving?
Great question! I’ve been loving this new rosé, The Pale. It’s made by the people who make Whispering Angel, and it’s very chic, I’m told on good authority. I got it at Race Lane Liquors – go there, they’re lovely.
Any tips for avoiding the crowds while still enjoying the Hamptons?
Just grab some takeout and hit the beach. Don’t overcomplicate – get a good cooler packed and enjoy the Summer!
