Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center is set to present Christopher Hampton’s adaption of Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage from Thursday, October 13th through Sunday, October 30th. Directed by Michael Disher, the Center Stage cast, including Edward Kassar, John Leonard, Catherine Maloney and Frances Sherman, will take the stage to share this story of a comedic altercation between two families.
“There is great humor in watching adults unleash their inner child, but with that comes some jarring and telling truths,” noted Disher. “The rules we learn in the sandboxes of our youth stay with us in more ways than we often care to admit.”

The three-time Tony Award winning play made its premiere at the Gielgud Theatre in London’s West End in 2008. The plot revolves around two sets of parents whose children have a quarrel at a public park. They gather to resolve the conflict in a civilized manner, but as the meeting goes on, the adult’s behavior becomes increasingly immature, resulting in pandemonium.
God of Carnage came to Broadway in 2009. The original cast included Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini and Marcia Gay Harden, all of whom were nominated for a Tony for the production. Harden won the Tony for Best Leading Actress in a Play. It had a successful run on Broadway with 24 previews and 452 regular performances and is the third-longest running play of the 2000s.

“God of Carnage is a fun and fierce 80 minutes of mayhem,” added Disher.
Shows will take place on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults and $12 for students under 21 (ID required).
