The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill is pleased to present the return of The Hamptons Get Mortified — a live stage show where participants share embarrassing memories from childhood.
The show on Friday, July 15th at 6 p.m. is something everyone can relate to. Presenters will read personal journal entries, letters, and programs. The Parrish Art Museum and Mortified NYC are once again co-presenting this long-running and live storytelling event for its 3rd Hamptons Volume. John Dorcic is hosting the evening, which is recommended for audience members 18 and older.
Mortified organizers describe the show as “a comic excavation of the strange and extraordinary things we created as kids…There are a million stories buried in the pages of people’s lives. Our mission is to help people find them.”
Presenters are selected after submitting their work to the producer of a specific Mortified chapter. Subject matters include a first kiss, first puff, worst prom, fights with mom, life at Bible camp, and reasons why they deserved to marry Jon Bon Jovi.
Mortified was created by Neil Katcher and David Nadelberg in 2002 after they discovered an undelivered teenage love letter. They contacted several of their friends to learn who might be interested in sharing childhood writings on stage. After the email went viral, there was a tremendous nationwide response. After a decade of productions, Mortified has become a well-known and loved performance.
There are Mortified chapters around the country, including cities like Austin, Boston, Chicago, DC/Baltimore, Los Angeles, New York, Portland, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The show has even spread internationally to places like Amsterdam, Dublin, London, Malmo, and Paris.
