Fireworks season is here! We all love to watch the show in the sky, but how many of us get to experience the same in our own relationships? Especially those in a long-term partnership. It’s only natural that things tend to become mundane once you’ve been in a routine for a while. Here are some ways that I like to get those sparks going again, just in time for America’s birthday. And stay tuned for my favorite Hamptons date-night activities (at right)!
1. Do something new for both of you. If there’s ever been a time to seize your environment, it’s during the summer in the Hamptons. Never tried sailing? Take out a sailboat in Sag Harbor with your love. Or learn to play tennis or pickleball together. Trying something new with your partner is bound to create a fresh association with your loved one and that spark will creep back in.
2. Create a ritual. Having something to look forward to always keeps things exciting in a relationship. Start going on morning beach walks with your partner, maybe take a sunset bike ride, or schedule a “no phone” dinner. You’d be surprised at how nice it is to spend time together without the devices we’re all so attached to.
3. Dress up. When was the last time the two of you dressed nicely and went out? There’s something about Montauk that brings out the fun. I suggest a night with some great music at Surf Lodge or get on a ferry to Shelter Island and check out the always exciting Sunset Beach. You’ll feel like you just escaped to Europe with your lover.
I also would be remiss not to mention my personal favorite things to do for a Hamptons date night. Being a local resident for my entire life, I’ve explored all that there is to see when it comes to nightlife. Now that I’m in my thirties with a husband and two kids, I definitely tire quicker, but I still stand by these activities for you and your date to enjoy.

Mini golf
The Hamptons has a wide selection of mini golf places to choose from. My personal faves are the ClubHouse and Hamptons Mini Golf.

Wölffer Estate Vineyard
Who doesn’t love a wine tasting with a little cheese plate? Even though I don’t drink, the Sunset Music at the Wine Stand series and the views from Wölffer are always a hit.

Stephen Talkhouse
This place is a classic, and has been featuring renowned performers since 1987. You’ll find great live music here. Plus, Amagansett is such a vibe. I never miss a chance to go to il Buco al Mare or Fini Pizza there before an amazing show!

Lobster rollin’
You’re in the best place for lobster rolls in all of New York. Clam Bar is an institution—and for a reason. It may not be fancy, but I love to put on a big sweatshirt and go to this Amagansett fish shack with my husband. The lobster rolls are truly the best. Bostwick’s Chowder House in East Hampton is also incredible, but make sure you’re prepared to wait. It’s worth it, though.
I hope everyone has a safe Fourth of July, and I’m wishing for great weather for us all!
