Sant Ambroeus has become one of the East End’s most beloved dining destinations. The restaurant has style, serves gelato and espresso at any time of day, offers fun outdoor seating, and delivers a world-class dining experience.
For me, it’s all about the pasta and the olive oil. Sant Ambroeus is in a league of its own. Just dipping bread into extra-virgin olive oil is enough to overwhelm your senses with flavor. Their pasta is incredibly fresh, made with eggs, and doesn’t weigh you down the way other pasta does. I don’t know why the pasta I make at home tastes so different—and makes me feel so different—compared to the homemade pasta at Sant Ambroeus, but it’s not a subtle difference. It’s a dramatic one.
Signature offerings include the restaurant’s celebrated branzino, a dish that has become something of a calling card for the Southampton location. No visit is complete without a stop at the gelato counter, where handcrafted gelato and sorbetto are churned in-house, offering a cool, classic finish to a summer meal.
The atmosphere is as much a draw as the food. The interior dining room channels Italian style from the 1960s and ’70s, with ivory leather banquettes and the brand’s signature black-and-white striped chairs creating a look that feels both retro and timeless. Outside, a vine-covered patio offers a more secluded experience, tucked away from the energy of Main Street and accessible through a quiet private lane. It’s a favorite spot for everything from a leisurely family lunch to a romantic summer dinner under the string lights.
Reflecting its four-decade legacy, Sant Ambroeus Southampton has built a reputation for consistency and craftsmanship, evident in everything from its house-baked breads to its imported Tuscan olive oil.
You’ll see me there again, sipping an espresso and pretending to be Italian.
