Paint Nights are all the rage at the moment, popping up at establishments across the North Fork and South Fork. If harnessing your creative juices during a night out with friends is right up your alley, join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County (CCE) at CowFish on Thursday, March 10th, Thursday, April 7th, and Thursday, May 12th for a beach-themed art session that benefits the CCE’s Back to the Bays Initiative.

“Brush Strokes for the Bays isn’t your typical ‘Paint Night’ type event,” explained Kimberly Barbour, Marine Program Outreach Manager at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County. “Here, participants get to learn about the marine species or habitat type we feature in our painting and have a chance to interact with educators from Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Marine Program who provide interesting facts and information throughout the evening.”
The goal of Back to the Bays is to grow the community’s engagement in Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County’s Water Quality Protection Initiatives, Habitat Improvement Projects, Shellfish and Fin Fish Research and Restoration and Youth and Community Education Experiences. “All proceeds support the ‘Back to the Bays Initiative’ which links the public with ways to get involved and support CCE’s efforts to protect, restore, and enhance our marine environment,” shared Barbour.
Barbour notes that attendees are in good hands with the evening’s instructor. “Our artist, Carolyn Munaco is a really excellent instructor and accomplished local artist,” she added. “She draws much of her inspiration for her work from our beaches and bays, making her an ideal partner in our Brush Strokes for the Bays efforts.”
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County is extremely grateful for the support of the local community. “David Hersh and his team at Cowfish have been so supportive of our efforts, recognizing the fact that we need to be stewards of our waters,” she said. “We’re pleased to be offering a series of our Brush Strokes for the Bays events with them over the next three months.”
Admissions is $45 and includes all materials, door prizes, and drink specials.
