East End Ladies Of Rock Ruling Bay Street This Weekend

It’s all about local women “who rock” on Friday, January 15th and Saturday, January 16th at Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts.

The weekend kicks off on Friday at 8 p.m. with East End Ladies of Rock. The concert at the Sag Harbor-based Theater will showcase the talents of several

Long Island favorites who will take the stage for an evening of live music. Cynthia Daniels, who opened the East End’s first world-class recording studio in 2011, will serve as the night’s host. Within the past year, Daniels, who started out specializing in orchestral pop from Big Band Jazz to Broadway, and moved on to producing records in the rock, country, and folk-rock world, has hosted or engineered sessions for Beyonce, Coldplay and Nile Rogers.

Attendees will be treated to performances from Mama Lee and Rose, Dawnette, Lilly-Anne Merat and Jewlee. “I am so happy to be hosting an evening of some of the most talented female performers on the East End,” shared Gary Hygom, Producer, Bay Street Theater. “This is certainly going to be an eclectic evening of singers and musicians, something for everyone.”

It’s a family affair for Mamalee and Rose Lawler, a popular East Hampton-based mother and daughter duo that has been delighting the ears of East Enders for over 20 years with their R&B, soul, and rock sounds. Mamalee brings a gospel/blues background, which has influenced her daughter Rose, who compliments the pair with her soulful and moving vocal renderings.

Dawnette, the lead vocalist of the Hoodoo Loungers, as well as the band New Dawn, helps local youth fine-tune their skills as a Music/Choir teacher, and has also been entertaining audiences at concert venues and music festivals throughout the East Coast for the past 25 years.

For Lilly-Anne Merat, it’s been a life-long love affair with soul music. Merat, who splits her time between Sag Harbor (in the summer) and Asheville (in the winter), recently completed an East Coast fall tour with her band, Third Nature, playing notable venues like the House Of Blues in New Orleans and Irving Plaza in New York City.

Jewlee is currently touring and performing in New York City, as well as in the North East and Florida, along with her high energy rock ‘n’ roll band, InCircles. “Producing an artist with what we call ‘the curse of genius’ is one of the most inspiring and genuine experiences a person in my field can have,” noted Daniels. “Jewlee is a proliferate songwriter and player. We both took a chance on each other, and since we are still working together, that risk and reward relationship is ongoing.”

On Saturday, January 16th, “Fireside Sessions with Nancy Atlas” will continue at Bay Street with special guest trombonist Clark Gayton. At 8 p.m., Atlas, a local legend on the East End music scene, will be joined by Gayton, who has shared the stage with Bruce Springstean and Levon Helm, for an evening of unforgettable melodies.

Tickets to East End Ladies of Rock are $20. Tickets to “Fireside Sessions with Nancy Atlas” are $25.
