Human Resources Of The Hamptons Presenting 12th Annual Polar Bear Plunge

Each holiday season, Human Resources of the Hamptons invites the local community to join them for a quick December dip into the Atlantic Ocean. Their request for a winter swim in chilly waters is in support of an essential local cause, of course.

On Saturday, December 12th at 10 a.m., Coopers Beach in Southampton will be packed with brave plungers, who are willing to submerge themselves into the ocean to raise awareness and funds for Human Resources of the Hamptons’ Food Pantry. This year, thanks to the mild weather we’ve been experiencing, plungers won’t feel like a Popsicle post-swim. Typically, water temperature in December average around 43 degrees, but within recent days, it’s been measured around 51 to 54 degrees. So if you’ve always wanted to join the plunge, this year’s your year.

Human Resources of the Hamptons encourages attendees to don a costume to the December tradition because it “makes it even more fun!” The organization hopes that the 2015 plunge will raise $60,000, with proceeds helping 350 local families, who rely on Human Resources of the Hamptons for food and assistance.

Following the daring dip into the Atlantic, participants can warm up with complimentary refreshments, including coffee, hot chocolate, soup, sandwiches, chili, bagels, and hot dogs, which will be served at the Survivor’s Celebration.

To take the Plunge, participants must either give or raise a minimum of $25. Attendees must register for the 12th Annual Polar Bear Plunge by 9:30 a.m. on December 12th. Registration will take place in the Pavilion at Cooper’s Beach. Each plunger must also sign a waiver on the day of the event.

Human Resources of the Hamptons operates the largest food distribution program on the East End, with over 350 families enrolled. They offer fresh produce from local farms and also non-perishable food staples.
