Interested in learning the ins and outs of cultivating a garden? Emma Woodward, who maintains the small garden behind the Pelletreau Silversmith Shop in Southampton, wants to teach you.

Since 2009, this little agricultural gem has produced an abundance of vegetables, herbs, and flowers, and has become quite an attraction for locals and vacationers alike. Woodward is interested in working on expanding the community involvement with the garden.
Emma is currently looking for a garden assistant, who will meet with her once a week to learn the processes she uses to maintain the garden throughout the season. The assistant will receive a harvest dependent stipend of produce and flowers on a weekly basis and could earn the opportunity to continue the harvest and maintenance of Emma’s Garden in September when Emma returns to school.
Contributing to Emma’s Garden does not require getting your hands dirty, though. The Southampton Historical Museum has started a garden fund that will ensure the garden is able to thrive for future generations to come.
If you would like to learn more about Emma’s Garden, Emma invites you to one of her two fun and informational events this summer. The Open Gate event will take place on Friday, June 12th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Emma’s Garden Party will be held on Saturday, August 15th from 4 to 6 p.m. Through these events, Emma is looking to expand the community’s knowledge of gardening, as well as utilizing both old and new sustainable methods in the garden at home.
