Second Hamptons Comic Book Show To Be Held Memorial Day Weekend

Nerds of all ages, get ready to unite at 230 Elm in Southampton. The 2nd annual Hamptons Comic Book Show is taking place on Saturday, May 23rd, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What better way to spend Memorial Day weekend than with your friends, dressed up in the costume of your favorite comic book hero or heroin? Founded by Southampton comic book collector Patrick O’Connor, the inaugural event was held last year and O’Connor hopes that this year will also have a good turnout.

O’Connor noted that one of the reasons for starting the Hamptons Comic Book Show was because there is nowhere on the North Fork or in the Hamptons to buy comic books. He said that people want to open comic book shops in the area, but it’s just too expensive. O’Connor believes the event will help to bring business to the area.

This year’s Comic Show will offer twice as many special guests as last year. Some featured attendees include Joe Kelly, a member of Man of Action Entertainment, David O. Miller, a science fiction and fantasy illustrator, and Kate Fox, a Long Island poet and friend of O’Connor. Fox, a breast cancer survivor who donates proceeds she raises at the shows to cancer charities, will be one of the author guests. The afternoon will also include a costume contest for those wishing to represent their favorite character. It’s a good idea to brush up on your comic book knowledge if you plan to attend the show, because a trivia contest will also be held. The winners of these contests will receive gift cards donated by Escape Pod Comics in Huntington and Long Island Comics in Babylon.

The event will offer different types of vendors for guests to visit with, like trading card vendors, collectables and anime. Of course, there will also be comic book vendors, including O’Connor himself.

The comic show founder said that this event will be really good for hardcore comic book collectors. O’Connor is unsure of the number of comic book fans there are in the Hampton area, but he is excited to find out. He hopes the show will be a cost effective way to bring comic books to the East End.

Admission for the event is $9 per person and half price for veterans and first-responders. Admission for children under age 6 is free.
