On Saturday, February 14th, join Guild Hall for two Valentine’s Day events celebrating Opera.
The festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with an Operatif Pre-Opera Lecture led by accomplished composer and dynamic speaker, Victoria Bond. During the half-hour discussion, Bond will divulge insights into the opera’s story as well as the artistry of the music. Admission to the conversation is $30.
At 12:30 p.m., enjoy a screening of the Metropolitan Opera, live in HD, featuring Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta / Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle. Following a success string of performances in Eugene Onegin, soprano Anna Netrebko stars in yet another Tchaikovsky masterpiece during the Hamptons double bill. The opera starts off with Iolanta, a whimsical fairy tale, but things take a turn for the dark side in Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle, an erotic psychological thriller. The talented soprano takes on the role of a gorgeous blind girl who experiences love for the first time in Iolanta, and then soprano Nadja Michael is the unsuspecting victim of the evil Bluebeard, played by Mikhail Petrenko. Both operas are directed by Mariusz Trelinski and conducted by Valery Gergiev. Admission is $22, $20 for members, and $15 for students.
