Oprah Winfrey Network To Air Special About Hamptons Beach Community

A new hour-long special, “Sag Harbor,” is set to debut on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN on Sunday, January 25th at 10 p.m. According to the Oprah Winfrey Network, the show will explore one of America’s most exclusive and historically significant African-American beach communities.

“Sag Harbor” will feature current homeowners, including restaurateur, model, author, and television personality B. Smith. It will also take a look at how sky rocking real estate prices throughout the three bay front areas of Azurest, Ninevah and Sag Harbor Hills are affecting the younger generations living in the East End Village.

According to OWN, the idyllic Hamptons hamlet was established as a refuge from racism in the early 20th century. As the cost of living in the tight knit enclave rises, the once all African-American neighborhood is now struggling to hold on to its identity. While for many, inheriting a cottage from a family member would be a blessing, but high prices in the Hamptons is making it difficult for some millennials to prosper. As property titles are passed along to the younger generation, they are then left with a complicated choice. Should they sell the nostalgic house full of family memories? Or keep it and struggle to survive?

“Sag Harbor” profiles a community at a crossroads, but also one that truly values celebrating life, family and tradition notes OWN. Michael Hirschorn, Wendy Roth, and Toby Oppenheimer served as excutive producers with co-executive producer Troy Roberts. The special was produced by Ish Entertainment.
