“Tracks,” “The Blue Room,” And “Pride” Featured In WHBPAC’s Finest In World Cinema Series

This November, Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center’s Finest in World Cinema Series continues with screenings of captivating current release art house, foreign, independent and documentary films.

Watch the incredible true story of Robyn Davidson, a young woman who in 1977 sets out on a treacherous solo journey across 1,700 miles of beautiful Australian outback in “Tracks.” After ditching her city lifestyle, Davidson arrived in Alice Springs and decided to trek across the desert to the Indian Ocean. While at first the locals didn’t take the quest serious, after months of camping out and working on a camel farm, people begin to believe in Davidson. A chance encounter with “National Geographic” photographer Rick Smoland provided Davidson with the necessary financing for her expedition, under the condition that he be allowed to photograph parts of her journey for the magazine. With just her dog and four unruly camels for company, Davidson takes a life changing trip of self-awareness. “Tracks” will screen on Saturday, November 8th, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 9th at 4 p.m.

When Julien, a middle-aged salesman, gets tangled in a steamy love affair with a married woman, things take a turn when she makes a startling accusation. “The Blue Room,” a 2014 French thriller film directed by and starring Mathieu Amalric, takes viewers on a wild ride as they wonder what is Julien accused of? “The Blue Room” will screen on Friday, November 14th at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 15th at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 16th at 7:30 p.m.

Based on a true story, “Pride” recounts the summer of 1984 when Margaret Thatcher was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the National Union of Mineworkers were on strike. After hearing about the strike, a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists raised money to support the strikers’ families but the donation is initially rejected by the Union. The group singles out a tiny mining village in Wales and decides to try and make the offer in person. As the strike prolongs, the two groups find out that standing as one makes for the strongest unification of all. “Pride” will screen on Friday, November 28th at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 29th at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 30th at 4 p.m.
