“Bennett Miller and Jean-Marc Vallée are two of the most exciting filmmakers working today, each of whose last films were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture,” said Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) Artistic Director David Nugent. “Their latest films continue their evolution as artists and we are so proud to share their work with our audiences.”
Jean-Marc Vallée’s “Wild” is making its East Coast Premiere during the HIFF Southampton opening night on Friday, October 10, 2014. The adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s best-selling 2012 memoir stars Reese Witherspoon, who takes viewers on a captivating journey of heartache and discovery. Overcome by the death of her mother (Laura Dern), Strayed’s life starts to spirals out of control as her marriage ends and she turns to heroin. Four years later, Strayed is ready to get her life back on track and leave her baggage behind as she takes a life-changing trip, a solo 1,000-mile plus hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. “Wild” will be released by Fox Searchlight on December 5, 2014.
Academy Award-nominated actress Laura Dern will be in attendance for the Kaufman Astoria Studios sponsored premiere and she is also taking part in HIFF’s signature program “A Conversation With…” on Saturday, October 11th at Bay Street Theater. Jean-Marc Vallée will also be at the premiere of “Wild,” which is his follow-up to “Dallas Buyers Club.”
Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” is the Saturday Centerpiece Film screening at Guild Hall in East Hampton on Saturday, October 11th.
The 22nd Annual Hamptons International Film Festival will be held over Columbus Day Weekend, from Thursday October 9, through Monday, October 13.
