This winter Hamptons Villages were hit hard with storm after storm and unusually heavy snowfalls. The constant snowstorms took a toll on the roads leaving sizeable potholes from Montauk to Southampton.
On Thursday, March 27, the New York State Department of Transportation will begin to fix over eight miles of Montauk Highway stretching from County Road 39 in Southampton to Stephen Hands Path in East Hampton. The construction will get rid of the top layer of pavement and replace it with fresh asphalt. The project is also beneficial for pedestrians and cyclists with improved pavement markings for a bike lane as well as pedestrian crosswalks which are more visible.
We all know what a blast it is to sit in traffic during the summer, so to diminish the impact on drivers, the roadwork will take place during off-peak hours, on Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Beginning Tuesday, April 1, they will also work from 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
