Guild Hall is once again partnering with the East Hampton Library for the 10th Annual Free Winter Film Series. The series began on Sunday, January 5, with “A Bottle in the Gaza Sea.” The screenings will continue with “Teddy Bear” on Sunday, January 19. The 2012 Danish film stars Kim Kold as a bodybuilder who travels to Thailand to find love.
Up next is “La Sirga,” on Sunday, January 26. The film stars Joghis Seudin Arias as a Colombian refugee who tries to rebuild her life at a guest house located on the shores of a great lake in the Andes.
On Sunday, February 9 catch “Aliyah.” The 2012 French drama focuses on Alex, a drug dealer who hopes a new job in Israel will be the fresh start that he needs. Before leaving, Alex must quickly find cash and accomplish his “aliyah” (the term for Jews emigrating to Israel). His complicated love life and a destructive brother make the decision to leave even more difficult.
2011 Brazilian drama “Found Memories” will screen on Sunday, February 16. In the small village of Jotuomba each citizen plays an integral role in everyday life. When a young photographer arrives at the ghost village she forges a deep friendship with one of the natives. The relationship has a profound effect on both of their lives, as well as the rest of the villagers.
The series will conclude with “Lucky” on Sunday, February 23. A 10-year-old South African orphan leaves his Zulu village for the big city with the hopes of turning his life around. When he reaches out to a family member for help, they reject him. He luckily meets Padma, an elderly Indian woman with an inherent fear of Africans. She takes him in as she would a stray dog and although unable to speak each others language, they develop an unlikely bond.
All screenings are at Guild Hall. They start at 4:30 p.m. and are free.
