This winter you can catch some of the best foreign, art house, documentary and independent films as part of the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center’s “Rose & Don Ciampa Finest in World Cinema” Series. Films will screen on most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The 2014 series will debut with Zack Clark’s heartwarming film “White Reindeer” on Friday, January 10, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 11, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. After an unexpected tragedy during the holiday season, suburban Virginia real-estate agent Suzanne struggles to put her life back together. Scandalous secrets lead Suzanne to form unexpected friendships as she deals with the difficulty of loosing a loved one.
Paolo Sorrentino’s amazingly visual film “The Grand Beauty” will screen on Friday, January 17 at 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Aging Italian socialite Jep Gambardella has charmed and seduced his way through the lavish nightlife of Rome for decades. A shock from the past causes him to question his extravagant lifestyle and reflect on his life, his first love, and sense of unfulfillment.
Next up is Clio Barnard’s “The Selfish Giant” on Friday, January 24, at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, January 25, and Sunday, January 26, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. An official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, the film is a modern-day adaptation of the Oscar Wilde story, about two boys who work for a scrap merchant.
