Ways To Participate In #GivingTuesday And Give Back During The Holidays

Giving back to your community is important year round, but #GivingTuesday, (December, 3, 2013), was created with the hopes of inspiring a national day of giving back to start the holidays. Getting involved is easy; all you have to do is choose a charitable activity that supports a non-profit organization. With the season of giving upon us, Hamptons Food Pantries are a great place to pick, and many are in dire need of donations.

Westhampton:

The Westhampton Food Pantry at Immaculate Conception Parish (631-288-1423) accepts donations of canned items year round. Donations can be sent to:

Hampton Bays:

The Hamptons Bays Food Pantry at St. Rosalie’s Church (631-728-9461) is hoping to fill its shelves for the festive season. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, through Thursday.

Southampton:

Human Resources of the Hamptons (631-283-6415, www.hrhamptons.org) has been helping Hamptons residents in need for thirty years. They provide assistance to over 6000 people per year. Donations accepted include all non-perishable, packaged foods (which should be dropped off during work hours and given to a staff member or volunteer), clothing (which can be dropped off inside the building or placed in the clothing drop box in the parking lot), children’s items and school supplies (which should be dropped off inside the building). To raise funds, they are holding the 10th Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, December 14, at 10 a.m. at Cooper’s Beach in Southampton Village. Donations can be sent to:

Bridgehampton

The Bridgehampton Community Food Pantry at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church (631-537-1527, 2463 Main Street) serves the Bridgehampton and Sagaponack area. The Pantry is open Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations can be sent to:

Sag Harbor:

The Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry (631-725-2880, sagharborfoodpantry.com) helps feed approximately 250 people per week. Donations accepted include fresh, perishable or canned items, which can be left at The Old Whalers Church (44 Union Street, Sag Harbor). The Pantry is open 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays. Amagansett:

The Farm to Food Pantry (www.amberwavesfarm.com ) works with East End Food Pantries to help provide low income families’ access to locally grown produce. They provide over 300 families with a weekly inventory of much needed fresh produce.
