Young inspiring actors and actresses ages 8 to 12 can enjoy a summer in the Hamptons filled with theatrical fun at Bay Street’s Summer Music Camps on July 22 to 26, August 5 to 9; and August 12 to 16 at Studio 3 in Bridgehampton. Summer classes run Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Each weeklong camp includes many aspects of theatre including improvisation, vocal instruction, dance, and much more.
Instructor Karen Peele Hochstedler will lead this summer’s first and last week of camp, the middle session’s instructor is yet to be announced. Over the last 25 years, Hochstedler has had extensive experience teaching music and movement, acting, script writing, and improvisation to young children, as well as adults. She especially enjoys working with children, watching their life skills and awareness develop through the magic of simple theater games all the way to a live stage performance.
“We are so excited to have Karen returning with Bay Street again this year,” says Executive Director Tracy Mitchell. “She was such a huge hit with the students during our winter session and she is beyond passionate when it comes to music and theater.”
Some of her musical direction credits include “A Night on Broadway” at Bridgehampton High School, “Grease” and “High School Musical” at Pierson Middle School, “Joe Sent Me” at Jacobson Center for the Performing Arts, “Working” at Center Stage, and “Our Fabulous Variety Show”.
Each camp has limited space and fills up quickly. Camp size is 20 students per session, with both an instructor and an assistant for each session. Students may sign up for one, two or all three weeks with discounts available if sessions are reserved when booking. Costs per student are $425 for a single week, $800 for two weeks or $1,100 for all three weeks. A snack will be provided daily.
