Beached Whale Washes Up On Hamptons Shore

Early on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, authorities received a call about a deceased whale that had washed up on shore in the Hamptons near Triton Lane in East Quogue. The whale, which appears to be a humpback whale, looks to have been deceased for quite some time and has began to deteriorate. While there has been no word yet on what will be done to remove the whale from the beach, locals have said that there may be a few options. Patrick Dalton, a volunteer at Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead explained that in past similar situations whales have been cut up and removed or buried in the dunes of the beach.

Until a necropsy is done on the humpback whale, it is unclear what caused its death. While some suspect old age to be the cause, others had opinions of it possibly being hit by something. For now this is all speculation until authorities release a statement explaining the cause.
