4th Annual ELIH 5K Family Walk / Run Taking Place Virtually

Eastern Long Island Hospital (ELIH) Foundation is raising recognition for Mental Health Awareness Month by holding the 4th annual 5K Family Walk/Run this May. For the first time ever, the event will take place virtually. Proceeds from the 5K will support Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) Behavioral Health Services, including Quannacut Inpatient and Outpatient Services and Inpatient Psychiatry.

“Join SBELIH to bring hope and awareness to those needing treatment for substance abuse and/or mental health challenges,” Christy Harrigan, ELIH Community Relations Assistant Director, said.

With the challenges that people have dealt with over the course of this past year, it has made the work of Behavioral Health Services even more important. SBELIH, which has one of the most highly regarded inpatient behavioral health programs in Suffolk County, offers serves including detoxification, rehabilitation and psychiatry.

“For many, this is the beginning of a new life,” Harrigan said. “This family event benefits Behavioral Health Services including Quannacut Addiction Services and Psychiatry.”

SBELIH offers treatment for substance use and/or mental health disorders. Patients receive customized treatment from an interdisciplinary team that includes psychiatric nurses, clinical social workers, recreation therapists and board certified physicians. SBELIH’s Quannacut (the Native American word for rainbow – signifying hope) Inpatient Services in Greenport addresses intake, rehabilitation, and detoxification, while the state-of-the-art Quannacut Outpatient Services in Riverhead is at the forefront of modern treatment.

The 5K Family Walk/Run will take place Thursday, April 15 through Monday, May 31. Walkers and runners may complete the 5K (3.1 miles) on the course of their choice, at any time. If participants plan on posting a post race selfie to social media, they should make sure to include #SBELIHWalkRun in the post.

Registration is $10 for kids 6 to 12-years-old and $30 for ages 13-years-old and older.
