State-Operated Mass Vaccination Southampton Location To Open On Friday, March 19

A state-operated mass vaccination site at SUNY Stony Brook Southampton Campus will begin vaccinating eligible New Yorkers on Friday, March 19. The site will be open 7 days-a-week from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Southampton location is one of three additional state-run Long Island mass vaccination locations that will be debuting on Friday. Others include Suffolk Community College Brentwood Campus in Brentwood and SUNY Old Westbury in Old Westbury.

“As we continue to see an increasing supply of vaccine, it is paramount that the East End gets its fair share. I have joined local officials in fighting tirelessly for the approval of this request and I am pleased that our ongoing efforts have been rewarded,” Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr., who has been leading the call for adequate accessibility to the vaccine across the East End. In January, Assemblyman Thiele penned a joint letter to the Governor and County Executive Bellone asking for a sufficient vaccine supply for East End towns.

Eligible New Yorkers can schedule an appointment via New York’s ‘Am I Eligible’ website (am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov) or by calling the state’s COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline at 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829), starting Wednesday, March 17 at 8:00 a.m.

Thiele personally lobbied Stony Brook University for a vaccination site at the Southampton outpost. “I will continue to work on behalf of our community to ensure that all East End residents have access to the vaccine,” Assemblyman Thiele added.

Currently, the New York is vaccinating Phase 1a and Phase 1b groups. Starting Wednesday, March 17, essential workers that are public-facing government and public employees, not-for-profit workers who provide public-facing services to New Yorkers in need, or essential in-person public-facing building service workers are eligible.
